The big news today is that “The Doomsday Clock stands unchanged at three minutes to midnight. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which oversees the clock–a metaphor of how close humanity is to destroying the planet–left the hands in place from last year, which is the closest it has been to midnight since the Cold War days of 1984.”
The implication is that if the age of the earth were a 24-hour day, we’re 3 minutes away from its destruction. This sounds quite ominous, right? Well, if scientists are right and the earth is 4.5 billion years old, we only have 9,375,000 years left. (Biblical scholars believe it will be much sooner.) Let’s find something else to worry about.
