If the Republicans block Obama’s hearings on Supreme Court justices, their strategy could backfire. Suppose that Republicans lose control of Congress in November, and the Democrats retain the White House. Then the next president would nominate anyone they wanted, and the Senate would approve him/her. Instead of getting a moderate justice now, we could get an extreme liberal next year.
