What Are Conservatives to Do?

With the transition of power shifting back to the Democrats and President Obama, what are conservatives to do?  The answer is, “Wait.”  When the political pendulum swings as far to the left as it has, the only direction for it to move now is back to the right.  I believe this will happen by 2012, and probably during the next congressional elections of 2010.  Just as the economy cycles through periods of growth and periods of recession on a regular basis, so does politics cycle through periods of Democratic control and Republican control, usually on two-, four-, six-, or eight-year cycles.

With Obama’s unprecedented high approval ratings now, all these can do is go down.  By the time of the elections in 2010 and 2012, we will have seen the usual failed policies of a new administration, more scandals involving Cabinet members, Senators, and Congressmen, and a president that has fallen from favor among the ranks of the media.  Republicans learned some hard lessons in the 2006 and 2008 elections, so in the next two national elections, the lessons should be for the Democrats to learn.  I do want the new president to succeed.  After all, who doesn’t want to have hope of an improving economy?  However, not even the best politicians can escape the political cycle.

Right out of the gate he reverses the policy of providing federal funding for organizations that provide abortions overseas.

Honestly, maybe the best thing that could happen is for him to royally trash the economy with his socialism.

Then maybe people would “get it”.
